The Indian army has been under pressure to reduce its ballooning pension bill. To do so, it has launched a new scheme called Agniveer that targets young people from traditionally high recruitment areas such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The scheme aims to boost recruitment and decrease the age of soldiers, but there are a few things you should know before applying.
The Agniveer scheme is a four-year program in which participants will train with the army and learn various skills, including combat training and weapons handling. Upon completion, up to 25% of the program’s participants will be chosen to join the permanent cadre of the Indian military. These new recruits will have to undergo a rigorous screening process before being enrolled in the armed forces, according to government sources.
During the four years of service, an Agniveer soldier will be paid a monthly customized package. The Agniveer Salary starts at INR 30 thousand in the first year and grows with each passing year. This package will include accommodation in barracks or military quarters, as well as allowances for food and travel. Those living off-base will also receive house rent allowance. In addition, the Indian army will pay disability compensation on time.
However, there will be no gratuity or any kind of pension for the Agniveer army after their tenure ends. This is because the agniveer program is not considered to be permanent military service and therefore does not entitle its participants to a gratuity or pension. Moreover, the Indian army will not deduct any provident fund deductions from the salaries of its Agniveer soldiers.
In response to criticisms of the scheme, the armed forces are considering major changes to the Agniveer program. These changes include raising the tenure to eight years, increasing the selection process, and ensuring that Agniveers are trained in combat and other critical skills. They will also be expected to attend regular training sessions and have the opportunity to advance in rank, as reported by The Economic Times.
Additionally, a number of state governments are making promises to help Agniveer soldiers find employment after their military service is complete. For example, the UP government has promised to give priority in hiring for police work to Agniveers who have spent at least four years with the armed forces. Other states, such as Haryana and Karnataka, have made similar promises. By combining the incentives offered by these state governments and the federal government, the Indian Army Agniveer is gaining momentum in the war against youth unemployment. By addressing this issue, the agniveer army could boost the recruitment of young Indians into the armed forces and help curb the country’s growing unemployment problem. The army is preparing to launch a series of rallies to recruit candidates for the agniveer programme. The rallies will take place across the country, and interested candidates should check their eligibility before applying. Eligibility is based on height, weight, and medical fitness standards. Applicants must also submit a valid passport-sized photo and pass the written examination, PFT, and medical test to become eligible for the program.
